Hello!
I am a Modern Day Dinosaur, aka Jan. "What," you're wondering, "is a modern day dinosaur?" Ahh, great question. It is how I can best describe my place in the world. I am rooted to traditions of old...baking bread, canning peaches and applesauce, creating luscious frozen strawberry jam. I spent 21 years with the best job I'll ever have...staying at home to raise my three children. I remember my IBM Selectric with fondness, recalling hours spent in college typing papers the "old fashioned" , surrounded by sorority sisters I'm still privileged to call friends. Crazy, right? I feel like a dinosaur who was dumped into a time machine, attempting to navigate life in a modern world, sometimes not so smoothly. I-phones, texting, movies on demand. ACK! Thankfully, I have three twenty-something children to help me navigate it all :-)
When I discovered quilting (remind me to tell you that story some day!), I was hooked immediately. It was the perfect word picture for a dinosaur meeting the modern day. This amazing creative process connected so deeply to our history as a nation, yet rich with opportunity to be stretched and molded anyway I wanted. The angels sang!
I love the endless possibilities that await when I get a moment to work on quilt. I love the smell of a freshly ironed batik. I love the relationships that are as integral to the quilting process as the thread that joins the seams. I love the community that defines quilters everywhere.
I'm just finishing a wonky sampler and I'm in the midst of a circle project. I will share photos soon. Let's build together in 2015...joining the old and new in a relationship that is boundless.
